Goodreads Summary: Two years after her best friend was involved in a car accident that caused a traumatic brain injury, Lottie Anders is ready to start her freshman year of college. Ready to move on. Ready to start forgetting the night that ripped her life apart.

Her plans come to a screeching halt when not one, but both brothers responsible for the accident end up back in her life again.

Zack is cruel, selfish and constantly rubbing what happened to her friend in Lottie’s face.

Zan is different. He listens to her awkward ramblings. He loves “To Kill a Mockingbird” as much as she does, and his dark eyes are irresistible. His words are few and far between, but when he does speak, she can’t help but listen.

The trouble is, Zan was the driver in the accident, and now Lottie’s discovered he lied to her about what happened that night. Now she must decide if trusting him again will lead to real forgiveness, or deeper heartache.

My thoughts:

Deeper We Fall takes place two years after an accident that caused a brain injury on Lottie’s best friend. Lottie is ready to forget it all, when all of a sudden, she finds out that both brothers responsible for the accident are attending college with her. Lottie hates Zack’s guts, because he can’t help but keep rubbing in her face, but Zan (the driver in the accident) is a different story. As much as she tries hating him, he keeps showing her random acts of kindness. When Zan reveals a secret about that night, Lottie doesn’t know what to do. Can she really just forgive and forget?

I’ll admit that it took my quite a while to get into the story. I realize that I wasn’t very invested into the book until I reached about 50% of the story.

This had to do a lot with Lottie. I mean, I understand that she was mad at the Parker brothers, but since I was also reading Zan’s POV, I was mentally kicking Charlotte for being so stubborn. I was like: “Charlotte, just give him an ef-ing break so he can explain things to you! Gosh.”

Anyways, throughout the whole book, I can safely say that I never liked Charlotte. I’m not sure if it was because of her rambling, or because she never gave poor Zan a break, but I just know that I was always rolling my eyes at the stubborn girl.

Zan was another story. I fell in love with him. Zan was like a little wounded puppy that I wanted to take home and cure. I felt the same pain and anguish he felt and I wish I could’ve done something to help him. I loved how his character was developed; he was totally relatable.

I couldn’t stop looking at her. Once again, she was the eclipse, drawing me in. It sounds intense and it is, being drawn to look at someone like that.

Zack was…

The giant jerk that you always want to kick in some sensitive areas. He made my skin crawl with how disrespectful and douche-y he was.

Anyways, I liked how the plot was developed. It actually started off pretty strong; I think my problem with the book was Lottie, but either way, all the other characters made up for it (especially Zan!). Although at the end when the big secret was revealed, I didn’t feel as surprised as I should have felt.

Nevertheless, once I got captivated with this story, I couldn’t really put it down.

When I read that the next book was going to be about Katie and Stryker, I started squealing. SQUEALING!

Anyways, overall this was a captivating story that will break your heart in some parts, put it back together in others, make you laugh, put tears in your eyes, and maybe give you a couple of life lessons along the way.

Rating: 3 stars

  1. I’m on NetGalley, and I saw this novel as an option to request. The cover look enticing, but the storyline didn’t seem all the exciting to me. Still not sure what I’m going to do, but I absolutely loved your GIFs.
