Books to Read to Forget You’re Single on Valentine’s Day

I don’t like Valentine’s Day. It’s become so comercialized and trivial nowadays. I feel like love should be shown every day, not one day a year. I also hate it because it’s the time of the year where all the couples around the whole world get extra lovey-dovey.

So, because books are the only companions that never abandon us, and there’s no better boyfriend than a book boyfriend, I’ve decided to list some books that’ll make you forget all about Valentine’s Day and that pesky thing about being in a relationship.

Angelfall by Susan Ee

 Angelfall is primarly about sisters. It features a romance with a rugged, muscled, beautiful badass boy, but just forget about it because Penryn (the protagonist of this story) is so entirely badass. She wants to save her baby sister from evil angels, and her journey is heartpoundingly amazing.

Sanctum by Sarah Fine

Forget about the super hot, super amazing love interest in this book (and also forget about his accent and his beautiful heart). What you should really focus on is Lela Santos. She is a badass girl who once tried to kill herself. Now it turns out her best friend has died, and is in a very dark and dangerous place in the afterlife. This book is all about friendship, and it shows that there are friendships so strong, that you’d go to hell and back for them! Sanctum is definitely one of those books you should read.

The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak

Want to cry about something that isn’t your love life? Look no further! The Book Thief is a poignant book about this 12 year old girl named Liesel who steals books. She lives in 1939 Nazi Germany, and books are her only comfort in this very difficult time. This story is proof that words can truly save us.

Stay by Deb Calett

You should read this book to realise that sometimes it’s better to be single. In Stay, Clara was in an abusive relationship with Christian, so she decides to run away from it. The problem is, she’ll realise that you can’t run from your problems forever…

Graceling by Kristen Cashore

You should read Graceling because when you can kick anyone’s ass like Katsa can, who needs romance?

Burn for Burn by Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian

In Burn for Burn we see that revenge is a plate best served cold. Romance? Ha! Nothing is more satisfying than sweet, sweet revenge. 

One Day by David Nicholls

Because if you can’t forget about your [non-existant] love life, then you should maybe read One Day; it’ll show you that sometimes you just really have to wait for it. It’s about Dex and Emma, Emma and Dex, two people who never seem to be in the right place or time to fall in love with each other. They’re destined to be, or, at least they’re supposed to be…

 The Merciless by Danielle Vega

Nothing says Valentine’s Day like reading a totally terrifying book! You’ve been told for the 10th time that you’re single? Don’t worry, just read this book and feel completely terrified of ever going outside again! But seriously, The Merciless is really scary, really gory, and really terrifying. A perfect combination.

To be honest…

This post was a bit of a parody, much in the style of my post last year for Valentine’s Day. I still don’t like Valentine’s Day (just… all the people and the couples and ugh) but I do like spending time with my friends who also dislike the whole Valentine’s Day dynamic.
